SESSION 9

Hi dear students!
Today we start studying the different text types you are going to find/write in your IB tests.
Here you have some notes on how to write an ESSAY:

TASK: Write a draft (only a list of ideas within the structure) and then an essay on the following topic: Learning English seems to be a must nowadays but aren't we risking our cultural identity when learning a second language.

NOTE: If you want to do extra practice, you can tackle one of the two examples of exam compositions on page 10 (3rd section) of your dossier.

SESSION 7/8

"ONE DAY IS THERE AND THE NEXT IT'S GONE"

What's the meaning of these quotation for you?
Watch the film and try to answer the questions below. Take as many notes as you can because you'll be able to use them to write your firs essay next week:
1. How important is the problem of language extinction?
2. Give three reasons why languages are dying.
3. What can we do?
3. Why should we care? (Which intellectual domains does language affect?) Give TWO reasons and explain.

'Language Death: A Problem for All' By David Crystal from Wiley-Blackwell Compass on Vimeo.

Now let's read about the topic: "Half of world's...." on page 10. Do the activities 1 and 2 on page 11

SESSION 6

Hi class!
Good morning you all!
After having our first split lesson and starting practising for our oral tests here we start with the activities based on the book.
The first topic we are dealing with is LANGUAGE. We are introducing the topic today first talking about the picture you have on page 1 and then working on the text on page 2: English- a Global Language? (Exercises 1,2,3)
As you can see we are commenting the picture but following an specific line, which will be what you should do in your Individual Oral test.
1. A short description of what can we see in the picture. Just to identify the topic and the context. There's a caption which we can't leave out. We don't mention it now but it helps to identify the situation.
2. Relate the picture to the caption. How are they connected? What's the meaning of the caption in relation to the picture?
3. Link it all to the topic (social relationships), to the target language culture (English speaking countries), to your personal experience. Express relevant ideas, give arguments!!!
